July Beauty Buys

This weekend I treated myself to a few new beauty products - all of which I was very eager to try out. I am a bit of a sucker for brand new products - especially ones that promise to give my otherwise fine, flat hair some oomph - and even better when they are on offer! Who can resist a 3 for 2 deal?!

First up was the new L'oreal Elvive Fibrology Range (£3.99 per 400ml shampoo/conditioner, £5.99 per 30ml thickness booster, currently 3 for 2 at Superdrug). These products claim 'to give a long-lasting thickness wash after wash', and for someone who can only dream of having luscious, thick, Disney princess style locks, I couldn't resist trying them out. After the initial shampooing, I did notice a definite thickness in my hair while standing in the shower - so far so good. Once you have rinsed the shampoo, if you choose to use the thickness booster, just apply it to your hair and then dollop the conditioner on top.

Verdict - Once my hair had been blow-dried and styled, I didn't really notice any thickness but it did leave my hair feeling very soft and smooth. I've since used the products again and have noticed some improvement in the condition of my hair but no Disney princess locks just yet (early days!).

Next up, to brush my squeaky-clean new hair, I tried out the Tangle Teezer (£10.99 from Boots). Despite not having a magnificent Rapunzel-esque mane, my hair still manages to get quite tangled after being washed. The hype around the Tangle Teezer is completely justified, I was impressed. In the long run I'm going to save myself money on detangling sprays, so all in all the Tangle Teezer was a good buy, I just wished I had purchased one sooner!

Most summers I like to gently enhance a natural tan with some form of tanning moisturiser. The one I am currently using (I won't name names) works a treat but I find my husband constantly complains that I smell "like biscuits". He likes biscuits so I don't really understand his objection to it but anyway, I decided to try a new moisturiser so opted for this one - Dove Summer Glow + Soft Shimmer (£2.48 - currently on offer at Superdrug). First of all, it passes the husband test and doesn't have as strong a smell as some other tanning moisturisers. It goes onto the skin nicely, not too greasy and I'm already noticing a summer glow. I didn't upon first application notice the soft shimmer, but under a harsher light I was glittering a bit, which I don't mind but I know it's not for everyone so this moisturiser is available to purchase without the 'soft shimmer'. I've used this a couple of times and have a light tan, I just need to be cautious that I don't end up oompa loompa orange on problem areas such as feet and wrists!

Lastly, to accompany my summer glow, I fancied buying myself a pretty, summery nail polish colour and decided that coral is always a good choice! This shade is called Coral Glaze (£5 from Models Own) and is part of their Hyper Gel range. Hyper Gel gives a long-lasting, gel effect polish with no UV light required. I'm not the neatest at applying nail polish and found this went on very thickly and I did end up ruining a few of my nails and having to start again, but that is more likely to be because I am impatient, rather than there being any fault with the product. However, I was told this polish would potentially last me weeks providing I didn't do anything too heavy duty. It's 3 days since I applied the polish and all but 1 of my nails has a chip. I will admit I am a little disappointed this hasn't lasted a bit longer, but I would probably purchase this brand again for 2 reasons - one being that the range of colours they had in their giant bottle shaped stall made me feel like a kid in a candy shop and secondly, although the polish hasn't lasted as long as promised, it is still the most long lasting polish I've tried!

That's all from me right now! Must go get some beauty sleep!
